Illinois Free Marriage Records

The state of Illinois is considered as an open state which means that its residents can get a copy of their personal documents. Illinois wedding records is just one of the many documents that the residents can request.

Genealogy research is one of the primary uses of a marriage certificate. Researchers would look into this document when they conducting genealogy. The information that can be obtained from a copy of a marriage certificate is necessary when updating the family tree.
Transactions in the government would also call for a copy of a marriage certificate. It is used as a proof of one's marital status especially when dealing with transactions that involve the couple. There are also those who use the document when they conduct a background check on the marital status of the person they are going out with. This way, they won't have any problems by the time they apply marriage.

A marriage certificate in Illinois would have the same information as that of the certificates issued in other states. One would find the complete names of the bride and the groom. The maiden name of the bride is indicated on the file. Important dates and places are indicated on the record which includes the date and place of the couple's birth as well as their marriage. One would also know the names of their parents together with the names of the people who were witnesses to the event.

The residents of Illinois can only request for a copy of the marriage certificate only if the marriage took place from January 1962. Only authorized individuals are allowed to get a copy of the said file, this includes the couple themselves and their immediate family. When requesting for such document, one has to know the basic details of the record being requested. Also, the one who filed the request may be asked to provide their contact details upon requesting the document.

Unlike other states, Illinois marriage records are not available at the office of the Department of Health. One has to get it from the office of the county clerk where it was originally registered. The state office can provide you information as to where to request the document. A $5 verification fee has to be paid when the county is unknown and another separate processing fee has to be paid when requesting it at the county office. It can take a few days before the results can be obtained especially if you have no idea where to get the document. This has been addressed when the Internet was used to deliver such information.
