Must Read Before Buying Wholesale Costume Jewelry

By Jaclyn Hurley

There have been a drastic increase with reproduced fashion jewelries molded from antique and vintage original items. You may find a familiar design sold in many states from online shops to thrift stores and fashion boutiques. Most of these are even assembled and reproduced overseas and being sold here in the States. Often, known brands are being copied in various range of designs.

You can identify if a wholesale costume jewelry have been reproduced from an original brand by its size alone. Mostly these will be bigger than their counterparts because of their larger molders. You can accurately do this by having a reference such as a book or you can ask a friend for an expert advice.

Aside from the size, the thickness of the treatment can also be an identification for newer copies. Replicated models may have monotone qualities without any integration of softer shadings and could even look like low end according to some people. These may also be gilded with vermillion, bronze, and silver and could made of plastic as well.

Another accurate indicator if you are serious in this matter is the mark that is on the jewelry itself. You may need deeper and updated knowledge on company markings though because this could change from time to time. A company line might be different now compared to its previous years.

These variations could possibly originate from the way these items are created, specifically mass produced. Furthermore, mountings on these jewelries could also differ in the way it is designed. Reproduced mountings are usually casted in singles while its original counterparts have mountings soldered in one piece to create more space.

You will also observe that the former will have a tighter look compared to the latter which is has a lighter appearance. This is because there is little space between mountings with the replicated ones. If you happen to check the prong of your jewelry, you will observe either the prongs are thicker or these are thinly made.

For comparison, thin prongs would likely indicated that it is an original and it is created to let the stones be noticed. Thicker prongs on the other hand would mean it is reproduced and it is created such way to secure the stones in its mounting. This is quite illogical according to experts because the main purpose a jewelry is to show off its beauty not to hide it.

Furthermore, prongs of reproduced jewelries are mostly left unbent for faster and easier production. Gluing it directly would be easier for manufacturers to do than to bent prongs manually like what originals have. If you try to examine an antique costume jewelry you can observe that it has bent prongs and this is to hold the stones firmly in its place.

In the end, if you like to purchase on a wholesale store you must decide if you want to buy and original or the mass produced version. There is a difference with quality, which is true, and the price could also differ as well. However, what matters most is that you recognize you are spending for something truthful. If you are buying mass manufactured then you should be paying for the price of it rather than paying for the opposite.
