Why A Wedding In Key West Its Where We First Fell In Love

By Peter Estenoz

When we arrive back in Key West Florida where we first fell in love, we rediscover why it left a lasting impression. Its southern charm, laid back lifestyle and Caribbean flavor give this place its special flavor. Prominent figures through the years have confirmed its appeal. Some have chosen to make it their permanent home. While others simply came to enjoy its warmth during harsh winter months in the north.

More than a million people visitors visit each year. Many are not coming for the first time. They understand why President Harry Truman loved to relax in his Winter White House so much that he would have liked to make it permanent. Here at the most southerly tip of continental United States lies a tropical paradise to savor.

The islands of the Keys are located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The two water bodies have contrasting currents. The Gulf of Mexico is warmer and calmer than the ocean. The island offers a good opportunity for diving and viewing the many fish species near the only coral on the continent.

The city of Key West contains this isle. However, the territory of the city extends beyond it to other islands as well. The Old Town contains the early settlement area of the historic district. This is where tourists go to see Victorian era architecture. Most buildings were built during the late 1800s and early 1900s. There are popular tourist haunts in this area. Attractions such as Fort Zachary Taylor, Mallory Square, the Truman Annex and Duval Street are perennial draws.

The island has increased in size via landfill. The new section is known as the New Town. It contains residential areas, schools, ball parks, retail strips, malls and the international airport. Basically, the island has four distinct areas. These are the Old Town area, New Town area, Mid Town region and the Casa Marina.

Whether on land or on the water you can just relax or keep busy enjoying the local activities. Visitors go to see treasures from shipwrecks, look at where literary figures and other famous faces spent their time, check out Victorian architecture and verdant gardens. They can go parasailing, jet skiing, take cruises, glass bottom boat and Dolphin watch tours. Top flight fishing is available by the shallow water flats or further put to sea.

Back in Key West Florida where we first fell in love are the many pleasures we enjoyed. The renowned sunset jogs our memories every day. On Mallory Square each night vendors, performers, and artists offer a resplendent experience. The sun drenched island hospitality has a perennial charm that entices repeat and first time visitors alike.
