Indiana Free Divorce Records

By Ben Kingsley

Divorce files are the only files that prove that a marriage is no longer in effect. They are usually stored at a state's Vital Records office along with other public files. But in the case of Indiana Divorce Records, they can only be obtained at the county Clerk of Court where it was granted.

Divorce documents are part of the public document and any person has the right to obtain copies of them. However, the extent of how much information you will be provided with will depend on who you are. If you are one of the spouses, their attorney, or someone that has the consent of the court, then you can access the complete document and view including the confidential pieces of information. If you are an outside party, then you will be given a simple document that shows that a divorce has occurred and that it has been made final by the court.

You can only apply for a divorce in a certain state if you have lived there for at least a year. Once the application is accepted and the whole process is done, the finalized file becomes an accepted legal divorce file no matter which state you are at. If you have gone through a divorce in the past and you have moved on and want to enter into another marriage, you have to show your divorce file. A license is required in marriage and a divorced person will not be given one without the finalized divorce file. And if you want to collect some assets or properties that you have from your past marriage, you can use the divorce files to make a claim.

If you want to request for the files but do not have any knowledge of which specific county they are stored, you can submit your request form at the Indiana Department of Health. The department can find the county - where the files are stored - for you. You can get a request form at the Department of Health, or, if you know the specific county Clerk of Court, you can also get one from there. You may also secure the form online by downloading it from the official website of the department or of the county Clerk of Court. Supply the required fields of the form and send it personally or through traditional mail. There are certain fees rendered for each type of request.

Divorce files can also be obtained through online search tools. You do not have to worry about legality issues because they are recognized by the court. There are a number of search tools available and most of them are real. However, bogus search tools are also present. To avoid getting victimized by bogus search tools, conduct a background check on them before choosing which one to avail the services of.

Divorce Records Are Public files and they can be obtained conveniently through an online search tool. You may find a search tool that supplies the records for you free of charge, but there are others that will ask for a certain fee for their service. Regardless of what you find and pick to use, you will supplied with the following pieces of information: full names of the couple, birth date, date and place where the divorce was granted, and others. With just the knowledge of the full name of a person, you initiate a search and get results instantly.
